Waxtractions is a series of abstract macro photographs of burnt and dripping candles. These candles ofen show interesting details that from this close, and especially blown up pretty large, create an impression of unearthy landscapes or parts of imaginative worlds and other realities.

I created this series by way of an exercise in working with visual elements such as color and form on an abstract level. Since in photography you can only capture what is actually present in the material reality I felt limited in my expression of the inner values and experiences and the unseen realities that fascinate me. This series of artwork was a first attempt to break free from the chains of realism.
